🧩 Hints Discovery is Now RecordFinder™

In early 2024, we launched Hints Discovery, our new automated system built to search the My China Roots Database for you.

For greater clarity, we have decided to rename this core feature RecordFinder™.

Now, instead of receiving “Hints,” you will be notified of “Record Matches” whenever a record matching your family tree is discovered for you to review. We hope this change better reflects the purpose of RecordFinder™ – to help you find Record Matches and make new discoveries about your family history easily!

Watch this quick video to see how RecordFinder™ simplifies your search. The more you add, the more we find – it’s that simple.

⛩️ Introducing Clans ᴮᴱᵀᴬ

Now you can organize your family members and zupus (family tree books) by clan.

Clans are extended family groups sharing the same surname, ancestor, and/or place of origin. In Chinese genealogy, they are a key source to find long-lost records and relatives in China.

To start, add a Chinese surname character to any person’s family tree profile, or save a zupu to a clan in your family tree. Stay tuned for more expanded features in the future.

In the menu bar, hover over Family Tree then click Clans to view your family members by clan. Don’t see any clans? Add a Chinese surname character to any person’s profile, then their clan will appear.
You can save a zupu to a specific clan in a specific family tree. In this example, the Wang 王 clan page features a zupu found for the Wang clan in Fujian province, plus the places the user’s Wang family members migrated to overseas and originally came from in China.

🧠 Dialect Facts and Overseas Communities

Learn about the different varieties of Chinese spoken by your ancestors with our new compendium of Dialect Facts, such as Hainanese, Hakka, Hokkien, Shanghainese, and Taishanese.

Database pages about Overseas Chinese Communities have also been updated to feature record collections available from each region, such as the Chinese community in Hawaii and the Chinese community in Jamaica.
